Laid off worker explores the services available to her.

Sheila lost her job in 2018 but previously partnered with the WorkSmart Network so she knew of the services available to her.

Sheila, a WIOA Adult Program participantShe connected with WorkSmart and enrolled in her local WIOA program to explore careers and continue her education. Through career assessments, Sheila decided to obtain her paralegal certificate. With help from her Training Navigator, Sheila navigated services, received tuition assistance and searched for summer internships.

I tell other people all of the services that are available [with the WorkSmart Network] and that there’s help here. This is definitely a service you should look into, get more information on, at least meet with someone because you’d be surprised.

Sheila will finish classes this fall and take the paralegal certification exam. Her credential, along with her career readiness supports from WIOA, provide her a bright outlook, with a median earning potential at $25.98 per hour and plentiful job options in one of the region’s high-demand industries.

After graduation, Sheila plans to find a paralegal job with the government but has goals of eventually working independently.
