Workforce Development Board Recognizes In-School Youth Participant Jarvis Deh

Originally from Cameroon, West Africa, Jarvis Deh moved to America with his brother and attended Monona Grove High School. Though transitioning to a new country was challenging, Jarvis found support through the Dane County School Consortium (DCSC) as an In-School Youth (ISY) where he was connected with staff member Dave Ruthenberg.
With DCSC, Dave helped Jarvis navigate the steps to earn his CNA license, apply for colleges, and pursue scholarships. Beyond academic and professional support, Dave served as a mentor, offering encouragement and helping Jarvis find his footing in a new environment.
A few days after his senior year in high school started, Jarvis experienced the loss of his brother, making it difficult for him to find motivation in his future. However, with Dave's help and Jarvis's determination, Jarvis is now attending Edgewood College as a nursing student with the long-term vision of opening a hospital dedicated to serving communities without access to proper healthcare.
When awarding Jarvis with the 2024 Aspire Award, he reflected on his journey, sharing his gratitude for the mentorship and assistance he's received. "I'm not finished yet. I'm going to continue pushing forward and achieving new goals. Thank you for supporting me and for providing me with Dave."
Jarvis' story highlights the power of commitment to your goals and how a little support goes a long way in achieving your dreams. We're proud to honor Jarvis as he pursues his education and healthcare and wish him the best in his future endeavors!
