Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA)
One of our funding sources is the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which helps us create workforce development initiatives and programs. Thanks to this federal legislation, we help people access employment, training and supportive services to succeed in the workforce. Under the Act, we also bring together business leaders and stakeholders to address industry workforce needs.
WIOA is designed to strengthen and improve our nation’s public workforce system and help get people – including young adults and those with significant barriers to employment – into high-quality careers and help employers hire and retain skilled workers.
What to Expect
We’ll meet one-on-one with you to determine your eligibility for WIOA programs. This means we may ask you for documents to verify your employment status, income, identity and eligibility to work in the U.S. We’ll also work with you on assessments to determine what skills you have and what career pathway is right for you.
From there we’ll help you build a career plan. We’ll work with you to create a resume and cover letter, prepare for interviews and connect with local employers. We ask that you regularly check in with your career planner, even after you find a job, to share career updates or challenges you’re facing.
