Wisconsin BioHealth Tech Hub

Actualizing BioHealth Career (ABC) Pathways Initiative

Biohealth Careers: Innovative Pathways and Empowering Opportunities

The Wisconsin BioHealth Tech Hub has been named one of 12 tech hubs to receive Phase 2 funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Regional Technology and Innovations Hub program. This $49 million grant is a monumental boost to Wisconsin’s biohealth sector, positioning our state as a leader in personalized health and creating thousands of new job opportunities.

The Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin (WDBSCW) is a proud partner in the Actualizing BioHealth Career (ABC) Pathways project, a key initiative in one of five groundbreaking Wisconsin BioHealth Tech Hub projects. Led by Madison College, we’ll partner with Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), and the Universities of Wisconsin, along with support from Employ Milwaukee, Inc., this project is dedicated to expanding opportunities and raising awareness for biohealth careers, particularly within underrepresented communities. Our focus will be on creating stackable, tailored credentials and promoting work-based learning opportunities, such as apprenticeships, to align with industry demands and foster career growth.

We’ll leverage our partnerships and support strategies including:

  • Youth Apprenticeship: Providing hands-on experience and learning opportunities for young people interested in biohealth careers
  • Summer Youth Employment: Offering summer job placements to help youth gain valuable work experience in the biohealth industry
  • Occupational Skills Training: Delivering advanced manufacturing training to ensure our workforce is equipped with cutting-edge skills
  • Wraparound Supports: Providing comprehensive support services to help job seekers and workers succeed in their career paths

The other projects will be led by various partner entities and will be overseen by Wisconsin BioForward. The  regional Tech Hub encompasses Madison and Milwaukee and was one of the twelve selected hubs nationwide to receive federal designation and funding by the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
