$150,000 Blueprint for Prosperity Grant Awarded to Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin

The Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin (WDBSCW) is a recipient of a $150,000 Blueprint for Prosperity grant award for their Middle College program to train up to 160 high school students in manufacturing or healthcare administration in partnership with 15 school districts, Madison College and Moraine Park Technical College. Successful participants will earn certification in Manufacturing Essentials or Medical Office Assistant along with technical college credits from Moraine Park Technical College or Madison College. The design also will provide successful participants opportunities for placement at 15 local businesses for summer or longer term employment.

The Blueprint for Prosperity grant award will support the WDBSCW’s Middle College initiative, an innovative school-to-work model, to serve high school students in its service counties including Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Jefferson, Marquette and Sauk in the 2014-2015 academic year. The Middle College is designed to prepare students for the workforce or post-secondary education through training in high-demand career pathways in driver industries.

The ‘Blueprint for Prosperity’ initiative is part of a comprehensive agenda to provide tax relief and invest in worker training to move Wisconsin along a path to prosperity. The plan includes $35.4 million to expand the Wisconsin Fast Forward worker training program into three key areas, including: increasing industry-recognized certifications in high-demand fields for high school students; reducing wait lists in high-demand fields at Wisconsin technical college; and, enhancing employment opportunities for workers with disabilities.
