MADISON—The Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin (WDBSCW) is amongst the Round 3 winners of worker training grants from the Department of Workforce Development’s Wisconsin Fast Forward (WFF) initiative.

The WDBSCW, in partnership with its sister organization, Northwest Wisconsin Workforce Investment Board, and the Wisconsin Agriculture Education Workforce Council and participating employers, is slated to receive more than $13,000 to support agriculture-related training for up to 50 trainees in Marquette and Bayfield Counties. The recent announcement cites DWD’s intent to award $291,679 for six grants in agriculture to train up to 314 workers at 19 employers. The grant further promotes the Board’s commitment to support workforce development for the region’s leading industries — including the agriculture and food production industry.

“We’re thrilled to accept this award,” says Pat Schramm, CEO of the WDBSCW. “The grant provides a unique opportunity for us to engage with ag companies and our partners across the State and jointly respond to an industry-focused need for incumbent worker training. And on a deeper level, this training can also help area companies find ways to seed and scale production capabilities to create jobs and make a larger economic impact to help these regions thrive.”

Taken together, more than $2 million has been awarded during Round 3 to train over 3,000 workers, according to the press release issued by DWD. The WFF initiative encourages partnerships between employers and workforce and economic development organizations to further workforce development in Wisconsin.
