Preparing Your Future Workforce – In September and Year Round

MADISON, WI—Wisconsin’s 11 workforce boards cover the entire state, serving over 25,000 job seekers every year and developing over 15,000 business relationships to connect workers to jobs. These connections occur every day across the state, collectively having a tremendous impact on Wisconsin families and the state’s economy.

To celebrate Wisconsin’s excellent workforce system, events are planned across the state during the month of September to highlight the importance of preparing our workforce for today and tomorrow. Western Wisconsin is celebrating throughout the month with the opening of a new Workforce Development Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The first event is on September 11 to honor all veterans, followed by a Chamber of Commerce “Business After Hours” in the evening. The new job center’s official open house will be on September 18, followed by Business Spotlight Week and then Partners’ Spotlight Week.

“We are thrilled to offer the community a new facility and to have so many activities planned with businesses and our partner agencies,” said Beth Sullivan, Western Wisconsin Workforce Development Board Manager.

On September 17, 120 inmates at the Green Bay Correctional Institution will attend a Job and Resource Fair. Rob Davis, former Green Bay Packer is the featured speaker for these inmates who within 18 months will be returning to communities throughout the state. Northeast Wisconsin Job Center staff will be providing preparatory workshops for the inmates.

“This is the first such event held in a maximum security prison in the state.” said Jim Golembeski, Bay Area Workforce Development Board Executive Director.

In Northwest Wisconsin, on September 18, the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce and Northern State Bank will host a human resources forum with Cory Kempf, Northwest CEP, Inc. presenting on what you can and can’t ask during an interview and what to look for to hire the “perfect” candidate. Also in Northwest Wisconsin, open houses will be held on September 30th at Job Centers in Ashland, Superior, Spooner, and Park Falls. Ashland will also celebrate the grand opening of a Career Closet that will assist disadvantaged, prospective jobseekers to obtain clean, appropriate clothing for job seeking, interviews, and new employment.

“The closet will be located in the Ashland Area Enterprise Center and was funded by the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation,” said Mari Kay-Nabozny, Northwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board Executive Director.
