MADISON, Wisc.–The 2015-16 class of Middle College, a tuition-free, dual-credit education program, walked across the stage to celebrate their accomplishments in completing the three-semester workforce training program. This marks the sixth anniversary of the program, which prepares high school students for career pathways including healthcare, manufacturing and culinary arts. Students learn both in the classroom at participating technical colleges and out, with paid internships at local companies.

The program’s tailored instruction and interactive curriculum helped the 35 graduating seniors succeed in the classroom and attain industry-demanded skills and certificates to set them up for success. Funding for the program is made possible by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (formerly the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.)

Previous graduates have earned up to 30 college-level credits and have gone on to attend colleges and universities such as Madison College, Moraine Park Technical College and UW-Madison. Others have already entered the regional workforce in fields ranging from manufacturing to healthcare.

Guest speakers for the events included Madison College President, Dr. Jack E. Daniels, III; Workforce Development Board CEO, Pat Schramm; and, Moraine Park Technical College Dean, Dr. Matthew Hurtienne.
